This recipe is near and dear to my heart, it was a tradition in my family growing up as our Christmas morning breakfast, and to this day I still make it for Christmas morning. It also freezes very well if there happens to be leftovers.
Make breakfast the night before and enjoy your morning!
Instructions
- In a 9” x 13” butter glass dish, put 8 slices of bread. Add pieces to cover the bottom of the dish entirely. Top bread with thick sliced ham. Top with slices of cheddar cheese. Cover with remaining slices of bread.
- In a bowl, beat eggs and pepper. Add mustard, onion, green and red pepper, Worcestershire, milk and Tabasco.
- Pour over bread, cover, and refrigerate overnight.
- In the morning, melt butter and pour over top. Cover with crushed cornflakes.
- Bake at 350˚F (180˚C) uncovered 1 hour. Let sit 10 mins before serving. Serve with fresh fruit.
*As an alternate option – use hashbrown patties instead of bread for your base. Thaw patties and pat dry, adding enough to cover the bottom of the dish.
